Who we are

The Electrical Academy is an online electrical pre-apprenticeship training program serving students across Canada and the United States. We are not a college, a union hall, or a job board. We are a training program built and run by working electricians to solve one specific problem: beginners want into the electrical trade, contractors want apprentices who are ready on day one, and almost nothing exists to bridge the two.

Who built it

TEA was founded by Eli, a licensed master electrician with more than 25 years in the trade and the owner of Spark Forward Electric, an active electrical contracting company in the Greater Toronto Area. He has worked residential, commercial, and industrial projects, and has hired and trained real first-year apprentices on real job sites.

The program did not come out of a classroom. It came out of a gap that Eli and the contractors he works alongside kept running into: the beginners walking onto their sites had never been taught the things that actually decide whether a first-year gets kept. Not the licensed work — the groundwork. What the material is called. What the tools do. How to be safe and useful and aware of what is going on around you.

Every contractor complained about it. Nobody was teaching it. So we built the program that teaches it, from the same complaints that get repeated every time a new apprentice does not work out: they were not prepared, they did not know the tools, they did not know how to communicate, they were not safe, and they had no awareness of what was happening around them on site.

Who it's for

Everyone TEA is built for has the same problem: they want into the electrical trade, and they cannot get anyone to give them the first shot. That usually looks like one of these:

• The recent grad who has applied everywhere. Out of high school, working warehouse or retail, forty applications out to contractors and not one call back — stuck in the catch-22 where you cannot get hired without experience and cannot get experience without being hired.
• The woman leaving low-paid service work. Retail, admin, dental, hospitality — done with work that does not pay and does not build anything, but does not know a single woman in the trade to ask, and cannot afford to stop earning while she trains.
• The electrician whose credentials did not come with them. Licensed and experienced back home — India, Nigeria, Brazil, Ukraine, anywhere — now driving rideshare in Canada because the ticket does not transfer and every door asks for "Canadian experience" first.
• The career changer starting over at 45. Twenty years in an office or a plant, watching the layoffs come, kids grown — willing to work, but not willing to spend four years starting from the very bottom to find out if this is viable.

You do not need experience, tools, or a trade-school background — that is the entire point of a pre-apprenticeship program.

What this is not

TEA is not an apprenticeship and does not replace one. It does not license you, sponsor you, or place you in a job. Becoming an electrician still means years of paid hours on real sites plus trade school, and nothing shortcuts that.

What TEA does is get you into that apprenticeship. There is a real difference between the skills that take years of doing and the knowledge you can genuinely learn in 90 days — identification, language, and theory. Knowing what a part is called, what a drawing is telling you, why the safety rule exists, how a site runs and how to talk on one. That knowledge is what separates a beginner a contractor will take a chance on from one they will not, and it is exactly what this program teaches.

The alternative is a classroom pre-apprenticeship program that costs several times as much, takes far longer, and still hands you no job at the end. TEA is the faster, cheaper way to arrive worth hiring.
